Willimantic, CT, was once home to the American Thread Company, the largest thread manufacturer in the US. The town’s other most significant claim to fame is as the closest town to the site of the Battle of the Frogs from the Seven Years War (also known as the French and Indian War). The city seal, the main bridge, and their public art project feature a spool of thread and a frog to commemorate these two things.
