Public Art Maps

Public art is one of the landmarks that draws me out to explore more places. Sometimes I go to a particular location with the intent of finding public art; at other times, I encounter the public art while I’m out exploring bridges or religious buildings. Below are the maps of where I’ve found public art fundraiser sculptures after they’ve dispersed. I include the date that I saw each as they may have moved since I photographed them.

Erie, PA

Erie is one of the cities that has had multiple fundraisers. The two that I’ve encountered, so far, are GoFish! and LeapFrog! Below is a map of the fish and frogs I’ve encountered as I explore Erie. Based on “GoFish! The Offishial Tale” (2001), as of August 2025, I have encountered 12 of 93+ fish, and per “LeapFrog! The Ribbitting Tale” (2004), as of August 2025, I have encountered 20 of 105+ frogs.

Harrisburg

Like Erie, Harrisburg has had multiple public art fundraisers over the years. The three that I’ve encountered statues from are Cows on Parade (2003), Dino-Mite Summer (2016), and Discover the Ducks Downtown (2017).

Pittsburgh

In 2003, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History held a public art fundraiser called DinoMite Days inspired by Pittsburgh’s and the Museum’s contributions to the study of dinosaurs. As of August 2025, I have encountered 27 of the 100 official dinosaurs and 4 more that I cannot match to an official dinosaur in “Dinosaurs of Distinction,” probably because they were finished or redecorated after the book was published.
